Bigfork Area Information and Accolades

Among other accolades, Bigfork has been voted as “One of the 50 Great Towns of the West” and designated as “One of the 100 Best Small Art Towns of the Nation” which is no surprise given its thirteen world class art galleries.

Bigfork has most recently been named as One of the 100 Best Getaways for a Vacation or a Lifetime and is one of nine towns featured on the Great Towns of America website along with Sedona, Estes Park, Ashland and 5 other special towns.

Bigfork was also named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People due to the incredible amount of community support for the town’s children.

Nike included Bigfork in “ The 10 Most Beautiful Places To Go For A Run ” Quiet, isolated, and peaceful, the trails at Bigfork are among the best in Montana, which itself offers hundreds of opportunities for stunning running paths.”

Just 25 minutes away from Bigfork is Kalispell with a multitude of “big city” stores, and the Glacier International Airport providing direct service to a growing number of cities via many major airlines, and Glacier Jet Center , a service for private planes and jets. Amtrak has a station right in Whitefish, 45 minutes north of Bigfork.

An hour north of Bigfork you can revel in the glory and the majesty of Glacier National Park , known as the Crown of the Continent.

Within minutes of Bigfork is Jewel Basin National Hiking Area, groomed cross country ski trails, and blue-ribbon fishing.

In addition to hiking and boating, the surrounding area offers all the outdoor activities that one can dream of including world class golfing on the western edge of Bigfork at  Eagle Bend Golf Course  which has been rated by many as one of the most challenging and beautiful public golf courses in the nation. Eagle Bend Golf Club is a 27-hole championship course located on the north shore of Flathead Lake. Eagle Bend is Montana’s only golf course to be rated #1 by Golf Digest for six consecutive years and in the top 50 in the United States. William Hull designed and built the original 18 holes. In 1995 Nicklaus Design designed and built the Nicklaus Nine which lives up to the Nicklaus reputation, with challenging golf and gorgeous views of Flathead Lake and the Swan Mountains.

A more recent addition to Bigfork is the  Two Rivers Pickleball Club  at the  Jewel Basin Center  where you will enjoy games, lessons, tournaments and more.

The Swan River is a fly fisherman’s favorite spot.

The fabulous Whitefish Mountain and Blacktail Mountain ski resorts are less than an hour away, and a multitude of other activities are as close or closer.
